The development of Catalan and Spanish Papermaking during the 18th century is best exemplified by Capellades and its nearby villages. In parallel with an increase in demand for Royal Seal paper and cigarette papers, demand for tubs in which pulp could be made multiplied. As a result, the Anoia area went from housing 14 paper mills, in 1728, to nearly 50 in 1800. This development in the paper industry led to the appearance of a number of auxiliary services (carpenters, blacksmiths, locksmiths, etc.). In turn, the presence of these services helped increase the further development of the papermaking industry. In short, these two variables enriched each other.

Much of the expansion of productive capacity was based on the introduction of the Hollander beater, a device that began to become popular in the papermaking area of the Anoia district, and remained so well into the nineteenth century. This new mechanism for grinding rags and beating pulp, together with the growing number of tubs used in paper production, represented a great opportunity to consolidate the auxiliary sectors in the paper making industry. It was to make best use of this window of opportunity that Isidre Soteras Figueras set up his workshop in 1860.

Today, Tallers Soteras, SL is a construction company making machinery for the paper industry, among other sectors, and has excellent facilities and a workforce able to take on a wide range of manufacturing projects, renovations and modifications to machinery.
